Institute Review
I have worked at this school for two years, and while there are some good parts of it, I would not recommend this position to anyone. The school itself seems to be operating on slightly illegal footing; I am on an E2 visa, but classified as an independent contractor, which means I do not receive insurance or pension. No matter what experience or education an applicant has, you will only be paid 2.1 million. There are no raises and it is a stagnant pay no matter how long you have been teaching here. I tried negotiating for a pay raise for my third year and was told that they will only ever offer 2.1. As for the living situation, the teachers live on campus. I have my own very small room, but I share the dorm, showers, bathrooms, and laundry with the students. The kitchens are also shared, but not connected, you have to walk down to the kitchen area. There is a curfew and teachers are not allowed to have people over or stay out except for Sat*r*ay night. The dorm itself is quite dirty and filled with many bugs in all seasons. During vacation, you are not allowed to stay in the dorms, you have to vacate. In classes, you will be in charge of teaching middle school first grade to high school seniors, approximately 500-600 students (it fluctuates). There is no other foreign teacher nor a co-teacher. Many of the classes are fine, but there are some very troublesome students, however the school provides no sort of disciplinary measures to stop the students from behaving badly. Students also smoke on campus to no bother of the administration. The English classroom itself has a few issues, besides being quite dirty: the projector cuts off about 1/4 of the screen as well as some other smaller bothers. Lastly, there is very little language support.
The pros
The school is in a good location and has good hours as well as working schedule.
The cons
No support for discipline, no negotiation abilities, no insurance or pension, living situation is bad.
