Compared to the standard ESL experiences I hear about, it's a pretty great opportunity. Whilst the net salary you get each month is similar to lots of other business English schools in Milan, this is made up for by the quality of the contracts, teaching hours, and the fact that the course program is fully prepared for you and regularly updated. I've been there for almost 2 years now and I've seen lots of staff be offered opportunities that go beyond the simple teaching role, which is fantastic in terms of professional development. For example, getting involved with content creation or marketing.
It's a small team with a collaborative vibe.
The pros
Normal working hours (9 – 6) aka no evening classes
Engaged, adult students who you coach rather than teach
Professional environment
No lesson prep because the whole teaching program is in digital manuals that are regularly updated
Offer of full-time contract with pension etc.
Professional development & training + fun team events (i.e they invest in the team)
Opportunity to grow within the company if you prove yourself to be a good fit
The cons
Net salary is like most other schools, which doesn't properly support the cost of living in Milan
Institution Location
Milan Zone 1
Relationship
I started as a Business English Trainer and was promoted to a management position after 1 year.

I worked as a trainer for The Language Grid for four years. In that time, I received extensive training and felt that I was trusted and supported to develop as a trainer. Working with business professionals in 1-2-1 lessons gave me the chance to expand my understanding of the corporate environment and this aided my eventual career progression. While working for TLG, I had a contratto indeterminato and was always paid on time - that's not always the case in other English schools in Italy and was something I really valued. I really recommend this organisation for dedicated, professional trainers, who are looking to teach in a dynamic environment.

Institute Review
They have an office in cool Milan and beautiful Rome. However, I never had a chance to explore the wonders of Italy (even on the weekends) as the workload, payment issues and dealing with nasty superiors was too much. Speaking from experience, being and employee at The Language Grid was a nightmare, it was the worst job I’ve ever had.
The pros
The location of the Milan office is great as it's where the fashion houses, bars and restaurants are. The location is the only positive aspect of working here. That and the students were always a pleasure to work with.
That's all, sadly.
The cons
Where to begin? So many cons!
The location of the Rome office is in the middle of nowhere - you need to drive to be able to reach work, as public transport is virtually non-existent on this route to work, but that's the least of your worries!
The supervisors have personalities that can crush your self-esteem, one of them has no other experience of working in the real world and how to communicate in a professional manner with colleagues. They rant about equality and professionalism (it's even in their so-called list of company values, however, these qualities are far from reality. It's all very much PR. There have been many occasions where I, as well as my 3 other colleagues have been bullied, put under pressure and patronized to the extent of which we have all shared experiences of breakdowns and mental health stress. All this just so that the Management team feel superior. Working at The Language Grid was such a negative experience, the atmosphere was always tense due to the attitude of the Management team - it was unbearable.
Advice to Management
See the cons above and suggestions would be to either treat your employees fairly and as adults OR close this company down.
Stop saying that a job at The Language Grid looks great on your CV - it really does not.
Take a Leadership and Communication course please.
Take more than one therapy session.
Institution Location
Worked in both:
Milan Office is very central to all bars/restaurants.
Rome Office is in the middle of nowhere.
Relationship
Previous employee.
I have not even added this to my CV as it's just not worthy - what a mockery!
